My name is Jens Dede. I studied Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of Bremen. My focus is on communication technology, as well as image processing and recognition using artificial intelligence. Furthermore, I have profound expertise in the field of the Internet of Things (IoT). This includes the development and programming of embedded systems, wireless communication (802.15.4, LoRaWAN, etc.), and the connection of sensors and actuators to various IoT platforms. I also have specific experience in energy-efficient data transmission, local processing of sensor data (Edge Computing), and the secure networking of distributed IoT devices. I have written the following student/academic papers:
- Doctoral Thesis: (Dr.-Ing.) "Detecting Animals in Challenging Outdoor Environments", supervised by Prof. Dr. Anna Förster. (March 2024)
- Diploma Thesis: (Dipl.-Ing.) Simulating and Modeling of Usage Scenarios for IP-based Wireless Sensor Networks, supervised by Dr. Thomas Pötsch. (October 2014)
- Student Research Project: Evaluation of the Trickle Algorithm for Service Discovery in Wireless Sensor Networks, supervised by Dr. Markus Becker. (2012)
- Project Work: Implementation and Evaluation of Service Discovery Protocol for Multihop Wireless Sensor Networks and Internet Protocol Networks, supervised by Dr. Markus Becker. (2010)
Further scientific publications can be found, for example, on Google Scholar or ORCID (0000-0002-8422-265X).
I am currently working as a research assistant at the University of Bremen at the Institute for Sustainable Communication Networks, where I am involved in various hardware and software topics. The current focus is on artificial intelligence, image recognition, and the networking of devices without access to infrastructure. Here, I am working on the mAInZaun, VerZi, and MoleNet projects, among others. I also teach various courses at the Bachelor's and Master's level, including IoT (Internet of Things), Fundamentals of Computer Science, Communication Networks, and in the field of simulation.
In my free time, I enjoy sailing on my own yacht and volunteer for the university's sailing community. Especially in the winter, when the boats are in the hall, I support the VfL Stade Basketball men's first team with broadcasts of their home games.I also enjoy photography. My focus is on landscape and nature shots. I make a selection of these pictures available online.
